COORDINATOR'S CORNER 2/12/12
Happy Almost Valentine’s Day!
This week, February 13-16, Granada High School has no sporting events on the track that we need to work around. Hopefully we won’t have to work around rain either.
I must apologize for last week’s rainy day and the Track Hotline. Being relatively tech non-savvy, I had that cell phone tucked away in my track backpack since last season and actually expected it to have a charge when I pulled it out to record an updated weather report. As the kids would say, “Duh!” It is now fully charged and ready to accept my outgoing message to you. Just a reminder, please don’t leave any
messages on that phone as I don’t listen to it, it is simply a way for me to communicate whether we are going to be practicing on rainy
days.
I spent the weekend sorting through the mountain of paperwork that you all have turned in. I will be contacting you individually concerning any omissions I have found. Also, I have turned over your Volunteer Sheets to our Volunteer Coordinators—Marion Dukes and Karen Meier. They will be putting together a spread sheet to help them sort through your requests and will be contacting you as well. They will be doing their best to accommodate your requests but please realize they cannot make everyone happy. We appreciate all your time and efforts on every job. And every job is important!
One last item, signing kids in and out of practice. For those who missed the Parent Meeting where this was discussed or need
a refresher, each child needs to be signed in and out of practice by a responsible adult. That means getting out of your car both signing in and picking up. We cannot have kids coming onto the track unaccompanied and definitely cannot have kids waiting unattended at either the Mocho Street gate or the Granada High School parking lot. I usually arrive on the track by 3:30 PM so if you need to drop off a little
early, I am there. And I expect kids waiting for a ride to remain with me at the bleachers until you come to sign them out. The team already
has a volunteer who goes through those sheets each day as practice is ending making sure every child that was signed in has been signed out.
If they haven’t, we assume they are still somewhere on the track and we worry and will be calling you if we don’t see them anywhere.
Please do not give us any more grey hairs than we already have worrying about your child disappearing on us. And please try to be prompt in picking up your child as most of us have things we need to take care of in our evenings as well.
Hopefully all the kids had a good first week of practice. We will continue with general conditioning for at least another week before we get into specific running and field event training. Looking forward to another great week of track & field.
Any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at marstad@aol.com or see me at practice either before or after practice.
