St. Michael / St. Charles CYO Track & Field and Cross Country
The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) track & field program takes place in the spring, with practices starting February 1st and activities continuing through the Diocese Championship Meet in mid-May. We compete in the Diablo Valley Catholic League, which is Section 1 of the Oakland Diocese CYO.

The St. Michael / St. Charles CYO track and field and cross country teams are open to all kids that live in Livermore or attend St. Charles or St. Michael. The teams are open to those in grades 3-8; those in grades K-2 can participate with permission from the coordinator.

Alumni news: two NCS records in 4x800 for CYO alumni and a second place at state meet!
At the 2024 North Coast Section (NCS) Meet of Champions, CYO athletes were well represented on the Granada HS 4x800 relay teams. The girls' team of Evelyn-Ruckmann-Barnes, Sade Bumpus, Mia Lnenicka, and Jana Barron finished first in a new meet record of 9:10.30, breaking the previous record by over 15 seconds! The boys' team of Eshaan Singh, Adrian Cuevas Gomez, Eric Bromley, and Alek Schade set a new meet record of 7:49.76, breaking the previous record of 7:58.10. At the state championship, the Granada girls' team finished 6th, and the boys' team finished 2nd, dropping over nine seconds to finish in 7:40.29.

A New World Record! Congratulations to CYO Alumna Jana Barron!
In June 2023, Jana Barron, a senior at Granada High School, was part of a group of women that set a new world record of 9:18:32 for the 100x1 mile relay, breaking the previous record for 9:23:39 from 1999. The record has been widely reported including this story and this one.
Jana's competitive running career began in 2nd grade with the St. Michael CYO track team. She competed for the CYO track and cross country teams through 8th grade. In high school, she has led the cross country team to three California state championship meets and been the individual NCS champion.
Jana will continue her running career at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Congratulations to CYO Alumnus Roland Ruckmann-Barnes!
The Granada High School cross country team led by senior and St. Michael alumnus Roland Ruckmann-Barnes completed an historic season in 2022:
- Team championship and individual championship for Roland at the EBAL championship
- Team championship at the North Coast Section Championship
- Second place team in division II at the CIF state championship and fourth overall across all divisions.
- 16th place team at the Nike Cross Country Nationals
